Bangor Area Transportation/BAT Community Connector

The Community Connector is a fixed route public transit system operated by the City of Bangor to meet the transportation needs for the residents of Bangor, Brewer, Hampden, Veazie, Orono, Old Town, and University of Maine.

Bangor Area Visiting Nurses/Hospice of Eastern Maine

One of three home care agencies merged under the umbrella of Eastern Maine Home Care, this agency provides eastern and central Maine residents with home care and hospice services. Services are paid for by public and private sources, or directly by patients and their families, tax-exempt donations help cover the cost of care provided to the uninsured or underinsured.

Bangor Housing Authority

Administers Section 8 vouchers and public housing, including age-restricted units at Nason Park, Autumn Park West, and Crestwood.

Brewer Housing Authority

Administers Section 8 vouchers and public housing, including 82 apartments for seniors and the disabled at the E. Charles Dartnell Apartments, Dirigo School Apartments, and the Heritage Development. Income limits apply; rent is set at 30% of gross adjusted income.

Old Town Housing Authority

Oversees 180 federally subsidized public housing apartments plus 209 Section 8 vouchers.

Offers age-restricted apartment communities at Marsh Island Apartments (345 Main St., 50 units), Bickmore Manor (336 Main St., 13 units), Penobscot Terrace (352 Main St., 41 units), and Dow Apartments (10 Rue Boulanger, 8 units). Also operates “The Meadows” assisted living facility (16 beds).

Penobscot County affordable housing complexes

Provides residential units administered by the Maine State Housing Authority.  Rent is categorized as Income Based, which means tenants generally pay about 1/3 of their household income on rent; or Rent Restricted, which means that rents are typically based on a specified percentage of the median income for the area.
