Maine Medical Center Geriatric Center

Outpatient geriatric programs. Services include a Falls Clinic for strength and balance, general geriatric assessments, and a dementia evaluation center.

In dementia evaluations, a collaborative team consisting of a geriatrician, nurse and social workers can make a diagnosis of dementia or memory disorder, provide information about the disease, and offer access to resources for appropriate care.

Multimedia: Mastery of Aging Well class

An online course in five modules presented by Oregon State University and AARP. Topics include memory, depression, medication and exercise later in life. Each module has a presentation (without audio), study questions and an action plan to download and follow.

The Stein Institute for Research on Aging provides a series of videos on issues including the importance of exercise, chronic disease management and sleep.

Video: The perfect place to enjoy a long life

This short video entitled “The good life on Swan’s Island” and subtitled “The perfect place to enjoy a long life” was made by a Swan’s Island resident with the support of The University of Maine’s Center on Aging.

The subject of the film is 95-year old Earl Lowell who has been enjoying retirement on the island for 30 years.

Videos on exercise and health

AARP provides 65 videos on exercise and the benefits of being active.

The videos range from strengthening arms, improving balance to more active pursuits – including one on the Brunswick bike path.
