Acadia Community Association — “Meals for ME”

Acadia Community Association is the non-profit division of the MDI and Ellsworth Housing Authority. Their “Meals for ME” program is available to all senior adults on Mount Desert Island for a suggested donation.

Aroostook Agency on Aging

One of Maine’s Agencies on Aging — a regional hub of resources, programs and services (some of which are income-restricted) aimed at improving the health and well-being of older adults and their families. Dining centers operate in Caribou, Fort Kent, Houlton, Madawaska, Presque Isle, Van Buren, serving noon meals to any person age 60 or older. Home-bound residents of Aroostook county may be eligible for Meals-on-Wheels.

Operates 25 food pantries in Aroostook County.

Southern Maine Agency on Aging

One of Maine’s Agencies on Aging — a regional hub of resources, programs and services aimed at improving the health and well-being of older adults and their families. Programs include Meals on Wheels, which are delivered to the senior’s home; and several “Community Cafes” or other communal dining opportunities.

State of Maine food assistance programs

Maine’s Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources operates the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, focused on providing nutritious foods to income-eligible seniors through food banks and the regional Agencies on Aging. Also oversees the “Hunters for the Hungry” program, which supplies game meat to food pantries and households with special medical needs.

Stein Institute for Research on Aging videos

The Stein Institute for Research on Aging provides a series of videos, including one on “Living for Longevity: The Nutrition Connection.”

Western Maine Community Action

The agency’s Senior Food Program provides a monthly food delivery; it is available to residents of Franklin County, Livermore and Livermore Falls who are over 60 years of age and are income eligible.
