Bangor Area Visiting Nurses/Hospice of Eastern Maine

One of three home care agencies merged under the umbrella of Eastern Maine Home Care, this agency provides eastern and central Maine residents with home care and hospice services. Services are paid for by public and private sources, or directly by patients and their families, tax-exempt donations help cover the cost of care provided to the uninsured or underinsured.

Belfast Senior College

Peer-taught courses offered at the University of Maine’s Hutchinson Center. Classes meet every Thursday for six weeks during the fall and spring semesters and for four weeks during a January-February “Winterim” semester.

Bridges Home Care

A division of Spectrum Generations, Bridges Home Care provides in-home services to support independent living, including housekeeping, grocery delivery, transportation, and hygiene services for seniors living at home. Also provides 24-hour medical alert services, home safety assessments, and adult day care programs.

Eligible seniors can receive food assistance from local pantries.

SAIL Midcoast

Inspired by the “Aging in Place” movement, SAIL Midcoast “connects its subscribers to screened service providers as well as volunteers: for shopping, transportation, tech assistance, yard work, changing light bulbs, personal care, and more.”

Spectrum Generations

Central and Midcoast Maine’s Agency on Aging — a regional hub of resources, programs and services aimed at improving the health and well-being of older adults and their families. Programs include Meals on Wheels, caregiver support, social programs and transportation services to medical appointments.

Waldo Community Action Partners

Provides non-emergency public transportation to low income, elderly, and disabled individuals in Waldo County as well as the general public.

Waldo County affordable housing complexes

Provides residential units administered by the Maine State Housing Authority.  Rent is categorized as Income Based, which means tenants generally pay about 1/3 of their household income on rent; or Rent Restricted, which means that rents are typically based on a specified percentage of the median income for the area.

Waldo County Hospice Services

Associated with Waldo County General Hospital, this program supports the patient and their family in making the best decision for care, whether: in their own home; in the home of family or a friend; in the Hospice Unit at the hospital; in a long-term care facility.
