The Healthy Maine Partnerships are programs and organizations dedicated to promoting health all over Maine. Their website contains information and tips about nutrition and some chronic conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Home Care & Hospice Alliance of Maine

A non-profit trade association whose members include home health care providers, hospice providers and other health care organizations.

This site will locate hospice/palliative care providers. You look for a specific organization or just enter your ZIP code. Refine the search by requesting certain services (inpatient, grief counseling).

The site is sponsored by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.

Maine Community Action Association

There are 10 regional Community Action Programs statewide that provide heating assistance, discounted telephone service, and limited transportation services for low-income households.

Maine Food Supplement Program guide

The Food Supplement Program (formerly food stamps) assists income-eligible households — including seniors — with grocery expenses.

Provides income-eligible seniors with a $50 FarmShare credit for fresh produce from Maine farms during the peak growing season.

Athletic events for adults aged 50+. Events include road running, bowling, basketball, cycling, golf, tennis, and swimming. Most events take place in Cumberland or York Counties.

Maine State In-Home Care Services

The Department of Health and Human Services offers several programs that provide supportive services to elderly and disabled adults in order to avoid or delay nursing home placement. In-home services are funded either through MaineCare or through state funds.

MaineCare and Medicare resources

Trained counselors offer free advice to help seniors and disabled adults navigate their Medicare and MaineCare benefits.

Savvy Caregiver courses

Administered by the regional Agencies on Aging, the Savvy Caregiver program is a 12 hour evidence-based training program that helps caregivers take care of family members or friends with dementia who are living at home.

State of Maine Adult Protective Services

Provides and coordinates services for incapacitated and dependent adults, including seniors. Confidential reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation can be submitted via toll-free number (1-800-624-8404) or TTY by dialing 711.

State of Maine fitness and wellness programs

Programs in chronic disease management, fitness programs, and balance programs to promote healthy activity for people aged 60 and older.

State of Maine food assistance programs

Maine’s Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources operates the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, focused on providing nutritious foods to income-eligible seniors through food banks and the regional Agencies on Aging. Also oversees the “Hunters for the Hungry” program, which supplies game meat to food pantries and households with special medical needs.
